For seasoned runners and newcomers alike, the Coeur d’Alene Marathon stands out as an unparalleled experience in the realm of racing. Nestled in the heart of North Idaho, this annual event combines breathtaking scenery, a welcoming community atmosphere and a challenging yet rewarding course to create a truly unforgettable race day. May 26, 2024, marks the race’s 47th year.
“This race is obviously very scenic with the backdrop of Coeur d’Alene, the lake, the Resort, and the beautiful trail system in Coeur d’Alene,” notes Ryan Hite, owner and CEO (chief endurance officer) of Negative Split, which organizes the event. “Something that I think is noteworthy about this race — compared to most other marathons in the area — is the large percentage of out-of-town participants that travel in for this race. It is a bucket list event for many of the 50 staters trying to check the box on Idaho. We typically get out-of-town runners from about 45 different states every year.”
For 2024, the Coeur d’Alene Marathon is on track to be the largest on record at more than 3,000 runners! After the run, there will be an awards ceremony, lots of vendors and exhibitors, food and coffee trucks, and more.
For those who aren’t interested in participating as a runner, for the second year in a row there is the Murph Challenge the Saturday before the event. This CrossFit-style challenge invites people to compete or just challenge themselves with pushups, body-weight squats and a 1-mile run. Also that same day is the Kids Challenge and 1-Mile Run, and packet pickup and expo for race participants.

“We encourage everyone to come out and enjoy the festivities, whether you are a participant or just want to catch all the action as a spectator,” Ryan concludes.
