Timberline Adventures

If you are an adventure seeker and enjoy spending time outdoors amidst nature and all of its beauty, Timberline Adventures is beckoning you. Owners Paul and Ashley Buttars opened their zip-line business, which provides a first-class canopy experience, in June 2015.

In 2013, while searching for a location to house their future business, Paul and Ashley were interested in a few locations in the Western United States to build their canopy tour. Once they made the stop to explore the Coeur d’Alene area, the pair fell in love and knew they had found the perfect location. The couple relocated to Coeur d’Alene that year. “We always thought we wanted to end up in Utah, as that is where all our family is, but since moving here we have no desire to ever leave!” says Ashley.

The course, located just above Beauty Bay, offers spectacular views. Guests are escorted by van from Timberline’s downtown office location and taken to the zip-line property. Once on site, participants are driven a mile up an old logging road in a UTV to begin the course. Designed to be enjoyed by kids as young as 7 and as old as 107, Paul, Ashley and their staff strive to give everyone who comes to Timberline a once-in-a-lifetime experience. “You cannot beat looking out over Lake Coeur d’Alene while flying through the treetops for two hours,” says Ashley.

At Timberline Adventures, all of their lines are in the trees, rather than poles. The tour includes seven lines that range in length from 400 to 1,600 feet and 50 to 400 feet in height. It includes three suspension bridges and a rappel. “Another thing that we are really excited about is a treehouse that we had built on the property,” says Paul. “It’s been a long time coming, and we are very excited to soon be able to include the tree house as part of our tour!” In addition, a unique part of the tour is the long bridge out to their 300-year-old ponderosa pine. The bridge starts out at ground level, and after walking close to 150 feet, you end up 80 feet high in the tree!

When it comes to what they find most rewarding in their line of work, it is giving people an unparalleled experience. From the 92-year-old celebrating his birthday and marriage engagements, to those overcoming their fear of heights or coming after battling illnesses, Paul says they hear many inspiring stories from their guests. He adds, “For them to come spend their time, money and stories with us is extremely humbling.”

Paul and Ashley credit numerous people who have helped make their dream a reality—and a success! Having been in the industry for several years, they hired the best guys in the business to build the course, namely Jason Lindsey. Timberline Adventures’ office manager, Holly Parson, is a great asset who works well with their customers, always with a smile on her face and doing all she can to accommodate everyone who walks through the door. And just as important as the previous two are their guides. As the face of the company, they make the experience all that it is. “We are blessed that we have such a great group of young adults working with us and really showing our customers a great time,” affirms Paul.

In addition to providing local and visitors alike an adventure of a lifetime, Paul and Ashley support area youth groups, schools, businesses and charities through donations, always trying to give as much as they can to an array of different organizations.

Timberline Adventures is open late-May to Halloween. Paul, Ashley and the Timberline staff look forward to hosting your next big adventure.
